  • Translation Job

    Dear diary,

Today I heard the programme "East and West again". To my surprise,a very prestigious interpreter was invited as a guest and talked a lot of his expericences about working as a translator. It got me indeed.

Being a translator or an interpreter can be hard. One has to know a bit of everything. They also have to be very competent at both Chinese and English or any languages you are about to translate from or into. That can be really difficult.

It's hard but it's possible to do. I'll never give up my dream of becoming a good interpreter.

I'll work hard on the road to be one of them!

  • An Unforgettable Experience

    Dear diary,

It was 8:30 in the morning. I was still sleeping. Suddenly, the sound of telephone ringing woke me up but I didn't get up. My mom answered the phone. It was mine.

"Hello,Cynthia! This is John from Radio Tianjin."

"Hi! John!" I tried hard to cover my sleepy voice.

"We will make a programme freaturing college life this noon. Are you free today?Could you come to the studio as a guest?"

"Sure! Great! Thank you so much!" I was too excited to felt sleepy.

"Then we'll meet at the gate at around 12:30 am,ok?"

             "Ok.Deal!" I get up at once,still excited.

The programme is called "East and West". I've always been a loyal listener since it's very helpful to English learning. I always phoning in and participate. They always invited some foreign guests on weekend programme. They talked about different topics each time. I enjoy listening very much but I didn't expect to be invited to the studio one day though I've been dreaming of it. I felt so hornoured since I'm the first listener they've ever invited.

However, this wasn't my first time being in a studio of TPBS( Tianjin People's Broadcasting Station). Seven years ago, I was also invited as a guest of a programme about Children's English. It was such long ago that I felt a bit nervous on arriving at the small and cool studio.

My mom listened to the programme at home. Seven years ago, she recorded my broadcasting. Today, she didn't have to since they will send me a CD next week. That will be wonderful.

I think everything goes pretty smoothly today. We talked a lot about university life. I'm very hornoured to have got to know the other two guests. One is a foreign professor teaching translation at NanKai University and the other a very talented junior at TFSU.

During the programme, there was an caller. She was also a loyal listener of this programme. She felt stressed-out since she will soon take part in the college entrance exam. I comforted and encouraged her in the air. She was very thankful and said my voice was very beautiful. Wow! I was very happy to hear her sweet compliment !

That's an unforgettable experience. I will cherish it deep inside.

  • Yeah! I'm Home!

Today is Friday. We don't have classes at weekend! I'll be home!

We should have had a class this afternoon. Since the teacher was ill,it was cancelled. I'm sorry for the teacher but I'm glad that I can return home earlier.

It's about 40 minutes' bus ride from my home to my university.

Yeah! My first thing after home is to turn on the computer since it's been a week since I wrote something here last time. I'm so happy to read your comments here! Thank you! It's a pity that I don't have time to surf the net at school! I've got a lot to write. I'll write about what was going on this week in just two days.

    Have a nice weekend,everyone!

    Cheers,

    Cynthia

  • An Interesting Class

    Dear diary,

Today we had an very interesting conversational English class. It was given by a foreign teacher.

The class began at 8:00 in the morning. I got up a little late and arrived at the classroom without having my breakfast five minutes before the class began. Luckily, the teacher hadn't got there. So,I could eat a little. I was so hungry that I ate so quickly. Just as I was about to finish, a young guy came into the classroom and greeted us.I sat at the door and he must have seen me eating.Anyway,I put it away and he didn't say anything.

He looked like a Chinese but spoke very idiomatic and fluent English. To be honest,as he stepped into this class,I had thought he was a student from other class who walked into a wrong place. That confused me a little bit.

Then he introduced and said he was born in Shanxi province in China. He moved to America at an early age.Naturally he grew up there. No wonder his English was so great and was considered "a foreign teacher". He isn't very tall but he's good-looking.

He got to know us by shaking hands with every one of us since there are only 27 in our class. He was very humerous and used his funny gestures a lot when he was trying to explain something. He could speak out our Chinese name perfectly. However, he refused to speak Chinese in class for his purpose is to improve our English instead of our mother tongue. That's good.

It really made a great difference compared to the Chinese teacher last term. We don't have to stand up when answering questions and every body was free to speak whenever we want to. It makes us relaxed and happy. I was very excited to have that kinda class.

I'm so happy to have a good teacher and I sincerely hope he will enjoy staying here in Tianjin.

  • Thank you,Mr Wang!

Today we had our comprehensive English class. Finally I saw Mr.Wang. He's a great teacher. I am very thankful because it was he who trusted me and offered me a good part-time job of being a home tutor this summer vacation.

There was another teacher at our university who needed a home tutoe to teach her kids conversational English. Then he recommended me and praised me in front of her.

I was so happy to get the opportunity. Making money isn't important. It was the experince of being a tutor that is valuable and helpful.

I thanked him and tald him something about it. He was glad and said he would think of me once there are some chances in the future.

I was lucky to have such a kind teacher. Thanks again,Mr Wang!

  • The Grammer Class

For the sake of my enthusiasm in learning English, I have always been very active in class. So, I've never felt sleepy in an English class. However, this afternoon I did.

The grammer class was taught by a female teacher. To be honest, her English wasn't very excellent in my opnion.

The grammer itself is kinda boring to most of the students. Plus the classroom was big with a lot of students and without turning on the fan. What's more,it was at 2 pm--a time when we're tend to fall asleep.

Since many of us haven't bought the book, she just wrote the example sentences on the blackboard, adding nothing new and creative. That made the class even more boring.

Looking at my watch, for the first time,I found time passed so slowly. I didn't know how it ended.I wasn't asleep coz I sat in the first row. I did felt very sleepy but I could do nothing but stay awake and catch up with her. It was such a toture!

With the bell ringing, we all felt so much released and free. What a class!

  • Happy Birthday,Mom!

  • The Greatest Love OF All

I like Whitney Houston's songs very much. It's very inspiring.I dedicate it to me and to all of my friends and those I loved and loved me.

    Sung by "Whitney Houston"

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

    Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone to fulfill my needs
    A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me

    Chorus:
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
    Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
    Inside of me
    The greatest love of all
    Is easy to achieve
    Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

    Chorus

And if by chance, that special place
    That you've been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
    Find your strength in love

    The End.

Also,I will have to join the speech contest which I have justed got prepared.Oh! So many things.I have to continue learning German and I plan to take part in the exam the nest year.A long-term plan though.

Anyway,I have been very happy during this vacation. I'll soon be a sophomore and there're more courses to take and I'll have classes even in the evening. Though tired,I'm very excited about my busy and fulfill life.Yes,I should learn more when I am still young right now.
